Why Do People Hire A Coach?
Teaming up with the right coach can help you see what is in your blind spot.
What do I mean by that?
Many of our beliefs about ourselves are in the subconscious part of the brain, meaning we are not consciously aware of those thoughts and beliefs. It's hard to change what you don't know is there.
When making changes, many people focus on the new behaviors and habits they want to adopt without realizing what they believe about themselves and the situation. Have you ever wondered why you mindlessly go back to old habits despite your best intentions? Your thoughts and beliefs are getting in your way.
For example, research shows when people who lost weight still identify themselves as heavy, overweight, or other negative labels, they were more likely to go back to their starting weight.
I used to think I was good at losing weight, even better at putting it back on, but I sucked at maintaining it. That belief became a self-fulfilling prophecy.
So back to the original question, I bring awareness to those thoughts, beliefs, and identities so that you can start your change there, allowing your behaviors and actions to follow.
Isn't Coaching A Luxury?
Is coaching needed? The short answer is no. People have the ability to get to their goals on their own.
The longer answer is when teamed up with the right coach, you can get goals more efficiently and with less frustration.
It took me 30 years to figure out how to get off the yo-yo dieting hamster wheel.
While I accomplished it on my own, it took me 30 years.
Would I have paid someone to help me get to where I am today, only faster?
What is the difference between therapy, mentoring, consulting, and coaching
Therapy helps people come to terms with something from their past.
Mentoring and consulting utilizes the professional's expertise to get the client to their goal.
Coaching partners with the client to discover what is getting in the client's way and what action steps the client wants to take to get to their goal. In coaching the client is the expert in their life, meaning the client ultimately knows what will work and not work for them.
What can you expect from coaching with me?
I know some coaches guarantee results for their clients. My problem with that is I have no control over what you will do following our sessions together. As any physical fitness coach will tell you, what you do the other 23 hours of the day following your session will determine your success.
Insight without action will not get you very far.
I guarantee that I will be fully present for our session.
I guarantee that I will actively listen and bring awareness to the things that could be getting in the way of your goals.
I will be a source of support and encouragement for you in your journey.
Your results are dependent on your actions.
